II. THE SILVER LOOM
LOCATION: Via Cernaia, Biella, Italy
TYPOLOGY: Art Museum, Adaptive Reuse, Renovation
TEAMMATE: Jesper Zhang
Since pre-Roman times, Biella has been recognized as a center for wool production and processing. The project envisions a new kind of museum—one rooted in Biella’s textile history but oriented toward the future of wool, fashion, and design. Aligned with the experimental spirit of Cittadellarte–Fondazione Pistoletto, the Biella Fashion and Textile Museum will be more than an exhibition space. It will be a vibrant center for work, collaboration, education, and cultural events—open to factories, brands, schools, families, and tourists alike.
III. CONNECTION THROUGH INFORMATION
LOCATION: Hampton, VA, United States
TYPOLOGY: Library
INDIVIDUAL WORK
The new bookless public library in Phoebus is envisioned as an inclusive, technology-driven hub for knowledge-sharing and community engagement. Designed to “float” above the ground, the building blurs the boundary between interior and exterior spaces through layers of shifting transparency. As a digital-age extension of the public library system, it will serve the neighborhood by providing equitable access to information and technology, while integrating climate-responsive design strategies to withstand future natural disasters.
IV. REFLECTION OF TIME
LOCATION: Curinga, Catanzaro, Italy
TYPOLOGY: Museum, Historical Preservation
TEAMMATE: Mika Sun
The Thermal Bath of Acconia, nestled in the countryside of Curinga, is an ancient Roman ruin that has borne witness to the legacy of public bathing in the Roman Empire for thousands of years. A new architectural intervention—comprising a protective roof and a ring-shaped elevated veranda—preserves this valuable archaeological site while making it accessible to the public as the museum’s sole historical relic. Though the bath has long lost its original function, it now stands as a powerful monument to ancient civilization and a silent reflection of time.
V. RIGTOPIA
LOCATION: Adriatic Riviera, Italy
TYPOLOGY: Amusement Park, Adaptive Reuse
TEAMMATE: Justin Liu
In the vast, open sea, where the horizon stretches infinitely, stand the silent titans of our industrial past: offshore oil platforms. These steel giants, once symbols of human ingenuity and dominance over nature, now present a poignant spectacle of abandonment. Yet, within this narrative of desolation and decay lies the seed of an extraordinary transformation. This is the premise of Rigtopia, a project that reimagines these relics of industrial might as vibrant hubs of joy and sustainability.
VI. THE RIDGE
LOCATION: Weihai, Shandong, China
TYPOLOGY: Museum
INDIVIDUAL WORK
The site is nestled in a rural landscape surrounded by forests and cultivated fields, where a winding path guides visitors to the art museum at the foot of Mashi Hill. Two expansive concrete roofs gently follow the natural contours of the terrain, their tops gradually tilting inward to form a new, sculpted ridge. Over time, the building’s exterior will weather and age with its surroundings, allowing it to merge seamlessly with the mountain and become an integral part of the landscape.
VII. MIRROR PLAY
LOCATION: Surrey, British Columbia, Canada
TYPOLOGY: Art Installation
INDIVIDUAL WORK
The design of Mirror Play Pavilion is inspired by distorting mirrors which are popular attractions at carnivals and fairs. The continuous mirror ribbon reflects and distorts the ever-changing surrounding environment, and attracts pedestriansto interact with the optical illusions. Everyone can approach, understand, and play with the pavilion in their own way.
